People tend to allude to wanting a long term relationship, yet lack the crucial skills needed for actually having one. In today’s episode, Holly and Ethan break down her latest dating experience and discover that some people may not understand the differences between relationships and “booty calls”.
Continuing with their experimental formats, Holly and Ethan decide to “free ball” this week’s episode. They start things off with Ethan’s rant about buzzwords before transitioning into holly’s long running interaction with “Gym Guy”. Things don’t go according to plan and the duo comes to find out that two Hollys are not better than one.
This week’s show has a different spin on as we welcome our first guest to our first “onsite” recording. Join Holly, Ethan and Holly’s mother Anna as they discuss their expectations in regards to marriage.
Holly has been having issues convincing would-be suitors that she’s not interested in them romantically. For one reason or another, they just aren’t getting the message, which prompts a discussion about what it takes to end the pursuit. Along the way, things get weird and Ethan begins to worry that Holly has inadvertently created a cult of serial killers, which is something that benefits no one (except true crime writers).
Wedding season is fast approaching, a subject that Holly tackled early last week with her Survival Guide: Wedding Season post on The Bitter Lemon. Seeing this as a good opportunity to break down the ins and outs out wedding season from both perspectives, the two come together and create “Weddiquette” for both singles and married folks.
Enjoy, but not too much, we’d hate you to grow too much as a person.
First dates are tough, but they can be made even more difficult when the participants struggle to find things to talk about. Sometimes, however it’s not the lack of conversation one has to worry about.
In today’s episode, Holly and Ethan discuss inappropriate first date conversation material and why thinking before speaking is incredibly important. Holly’s expertise comes from being the victim of bad first date conversations while Ethan has a bit more “hands on” experience with it. Both want to make sure you’re “weird convo” free.
Gender roles as defined for the last million years have opened up quite a bit in the last few decades. Women can be the bread winners, men can take on the domestic responsibilities and both can be equally convinced that they’re the sex that’s actually “in charge”. Yet for every new opportunity comes a new opportunity for confusion, especially in the realm of relationships.
In this episode, Holly and Ethan discuss whether or not it’s proper for women to approach men and for men to be approachable in terms of starting relationships, making the first move and initiating “monkey business”. Holly is worried that she appears desperate while Ethan is intimidated by the girl with the “bitch face”. Both get distracted with praising “Sex in the City” until they pull it together and do their best to come to a conclusion.
Being that Holly and Ethan have had a bit of experience with sexual themed relations, they had every intention of talking about how foreign the concept of “saving one’s self for marriage” was. The subject, prompted by Olympian Lolo Jones’ revelation of her own virginity, quickly takes a turn as both Holly and Ethan come to a shocking realization. Their conclusions eventually prompt a scientific study, one you’ll have to hear to believe. Will their lives change forever? Probably not, but it’d be quite interesting if they did.
Holly will be appearing on “The Riffingtons” Wednesday February the 12th at 7:30 PM CST where she’ll be helping hosts Josh and Theo “navigate the choppy waters that are Valentine’s Day”.
The Riffingtons is a live comedy podcast hosted by Joshua Duplechain and Theo Roll. It’s a really funny show, so go over and support the guys as they continue to produce quality content.
In this week’s episode, Holly and Ethan discuss the “friend zone“, a zone that sounds really cool but actually isn’t. Since both have been in the driver and passenger seat of the bus headed straight towards the friend-zone, they’ve decided to dig into the matter in hopes of preventing heartache and passive aggressive Facebook posts. Holly takes a direct approach when dealing with the friend zone while Ethan ends up sounding like an asshole. Both come away better people (though it didn’t last long).
It’s worth noting that it was not our intention to release this episode three days before Valentine’s Day, though it did work out quite nicely that way.
