In this week’s episode, Holly and Ethan discuss the “friend zone“, a zone that sounds really cool but actually isn’t. Since both have been in the driver and passenger seat of the bus headed straight towards the friend-zone, they’ve decided to dig into the matter in hopes of preventing heartache and passive aggressive Facebook posts. Holly takes a direct approach when dealing with the friend zone while Ethan ends up sounding like an asshole. Both come away better people (though it didn’t last long).
It’s worth noting that it was not our intention to release this episode three days before Valentine’s Day, though it did work out quite nicely that way.
Two weeks in a row? Did a real life producer take over ‘Learning From Strangers” duties? Nope, we’re just riding the wave that is the new year. We’re also high on life, like dangerously high.
Dressing for success is very important in today’s fast paced social environment as few people have the time to actually “get to know a person”. Utilizing their wealth of knowledge on the topic, Holly and Ethan break down appropriate dress for a variety of dating related situations while also discussing Louisiana’s ability to deal with inclement winter weather, surf fashion and Holly’s distaste for the fashion of time travelers.
It feels like its been two months since we’ve last posted, which is actually pretty close to how long it’s actually been. After some tech issues resulting in the death of three episodes, a long holiday and revelations about how many chips are too many chips to consume at a party, Holly and Ethan are back in 2014 with a brand new episode.
In Episode 2 (Episode 3 if you count the pilot and 6 if the lost episodes are taken into consideration), Holly and Ethan decide to talk about their New Years Resolutions. Holly comes face to face with boyfriends of New Years past and then tries to determine when the new year becomes the old year (spoiler: it’s June) while Ethan over indulges and nearly suffers a dance themed catastrophe. Both have gone Paleo, but will only talk about it when asked, so don’t worry 😉
Holly and Ethan discuss the ins and outs of appropriate drinking behavior despite the fact that neither is know for demonstrating a whole lot of it. Holly develops a “no drinking with coworkers” rule and Ethan considers doing the same. Both respect the straight edge way of life while at the same time not entirely understanding it.
Note: At about the 32 min mark, the volume took a plunge so I was forced to adjust the levels. I am not very good at such things, so there will be spikes. If you’re listening on headphones, please be aware, for the sake of your hearing.
Holly and Ethan are both cat owners and have come together to discuss the ins and out of being knee deep in what most would call “Cat Ladyhood”. In this episode Holly describes her experiences with Soft Paws and the pity that comes with raising a three legged cat while Ethan comes to the realization that the names he’s assigned to his cats may have directly affected their personalities. It’s worth noting that both were covered in a fine layer of cat hair during the recording of this podcast, hair that they swear is impossible to get rid of.
During the pilot episode of “Learning From Strangers”, Holly and Ethan discuss creepiness and ways to avoid creepers and becoming a creeper yourself. Listen as two individuals who haven’t chatted since high school dig through their own personal experiences with creepiness, from Holly’s gym stalker and Emilio Estevez like neighbor to Ethan’s run in with a semi cannibalistic sex fiend and his guilt over more than likely being creepy himself.
This is our first show and as such, it may be a bit rough around the edges. Instead of pouring over it, we’ve decided to label our podcasting technique for this episode as “guerilla”, which is what people call things when they want to make their technical ineptitude seem purposeful.
